...(to the tune of 3AM by matchbox twenty).. this day's hazy.. it's 4pm, it must be time to go.. when's this day over..i can't wait to leave the lab and drive to davis..

anyway..

in 5 minutes i'm going to happy hour. yeah i know, there's been a slight time elapse since i typed up the song thing, but people keep running in here frantic about their mice. i'm not leaving until tuesday, sheesh! i'm really sick of training new people. first i trained soo, then i trained various post doc's, now i'm training some Obnoxious (yes, with a capital 'o' that's how annoying he is) stanford undergrad. i hear most of them are like that though (sorry char).

yay, congrats to alli on davis. i guess we'll be having you in town for a lot longer than anticipated. and we won't have to buy you all that warm clothing you'd have needed for WI.

i'm thinking of going to disneyland next week.. hmm... i donno, just want to get out of this place. even this state, but greg says nyc is tooo expensive.

so it's recently been revealed to me that instead of buying the book (ie harry potter and the order of the phoenix) you should instead find someone who is buying it and ask to borrow it. this makes some sense, especially in the case of the hard cover books. but.... i'm one of the only people i know who buys their books. so i must be that person everyone borrows from... umm..
..i took my lunch break.. and i forgot where i was..

all i can say is 'haha!!'

oh, in case you can't tell, that's dubya falling off a segway.

though it must suck to have people always watching you make your dumb mistakes.

so several new events have happened in the past couple of days:
1. interviewed for 100% research job at UCSF.
2. went back for a second interview.
3. was offered job at UCSF.
4. accepted job at UCSF.
and finally... (drumroll please)

5. resigned from stanford.

i'm excited and nervous. very nervous. what if they hate me? what if they go, gosh her resume was sooo misleading? what if!

which reminds me of the futurama episode where the professor invents a machine that can show 'what if' within 1/2 a plausibility unit... sorry for the random aside.

so the reaction from people at work is mixed. some people are excited for me and wish me the best, some people are talking behind my back about only 2 weeks notice. which makes me sort of mad, two weeks is all that is required. if i told them i was leaving sooner, they would probably try and make me stay or making leaving harder, or hire someone else and get rid of me. plus, it's not like i knew this was going to happen so soon anyway. and the ucsf people are so anxious that i start right away, so all the vacation time i accumulated is wasted (i will get paid for it, but you know, i won't get to use it) and i get no break in between. that sort of sucks. plus they said weekends might be involved. which would also way suck if it happens frequently. but we'll see.

so another random aside.. i was listening to the radio the other day and they said "coming up, for the next hour all your favorites from the 90's." how old does that just make me feel? plus, it's not like the 90's were so long ago, it's only been 2.5 years.

i had more amusing things to say, but i forgot. maybe they'll come back later.....

one of the scariest places to be sent to (on the job) is a product show, with a *specific* product in mind. first off, all the people in that room (or series of rooms in this case) could probably pull a response out of rocks with their charisma. so when you only have a couple simple questions (does it use universal tips? what ranges does it come in? how much?), they give you an entire spiel on the history, the ergonomics, the reasons it's better than the others, and on and on. this is generally where i stop paying attention, actually, sometimes i don't make it past the history. yes, i know, it's what sales people do, but highly annoying when you are on a time limit. anyway, the worst part is being debriefed by post doc's. they certainly should have been the ones to go talk to these sales reps since i'm sure the rep's spiel would have answered the questions.

other than that, life continues onward. for those who don't know, i've been out seriously dress shopping. this does go against many of my principles, especially the all encompassing i look bad in a dress principle. but as i'm going to two weddings in august in the midwest which are night time weddings, a dress is prescribed. so i went out and found this bcbg dress and fell in love with it. but i'm not sure that it's the best dress for the job since it was 160 usd!!!! but i saw this incredibly cute a|x one too.. i can't find a picture of it online, but there's a skirt in a similiar print. i'm leaning toward the a|x dress, mostly cuz it was 75 usd cheaper. i currently "own" both of these - one will go back, but which one, weigh in with comments!
