Brain Power
A British doctor says, "Medicine in my country is so advanced that we can take a brain out of one man, put it in another and have him looking for work in 6 weeks." A German doctor says, "That's nothing. We can take a brain out of one person, put it in another and have him preparing for war in 4 weeks." The American doctor, not to be outdone, says," You guys are way behind. We took a man with no brain from Texas, put him in the White House, and now half the country is looking for work and the other half is preparing for war."

haha!

Weekend round-up:

3 great days with greg
1 fun evening with movies, pizza and fantasy torte (ok, watching the mummy was amusing.. not enthralling, but predictably amusing)
36 hours of vomitting icki-ness (so bad i took a day off of work)
it's been.. 50 + hours since i've eaten solid food, or for that matter, food which was not clear, liquid and warm.
1 disturbing union letter demanding money and if 3 dollar is not forked over, they will get me fired!
did i mention 3 days of bliss with greg? i think it sort of all cancels out from there.

From msn.com:
On Tuesday, Bush chided those who sought a delay in military action. “This business about more time; how much time do we need to see clearly that he’s not disarming?” Bush said, speaking of Saddam Hussein.
“Surely our friends have learned lessons from the past,” Bush said. “Surely we have learned how this man deceives and delays.”

one assumes the man has speech writers and can probably memorize a speech, but why's it sound so lame? when you break it down, it's incoherent at times and completely redundant.

the science of spending
i've spent so much money the past few days, it's not even funny. I guess having money really does make you a bit free-er and a bit more tight with it. sounds sort of opposite, doesn't it? well let me explain:
you earn more money than you've made in your entire life, ergo you have more to spend, ergo you feel less broke, ergo more likely to go out to situations where you might need money (ie dinners, lunches, byob parties, shopping, etc) than you did before.
but with the stipulation that:
you earned that money, your blood, sweat, tears, stress, fingernails, hair, whatnot, went into making that money, and now that you've got it, it seems to have more value than the money you were just given (gifts, allowance, stipend, what have you).

so in the past years, if i spent 100.00USD in one month, i considered it a bit outrageous, that was a huge amount of money. you know, something like, dinner out once a week, maybe if i was lucky, splurge on some clothing (which 99% of the time had to be on the sales rack). and this weekend, i blew over 100 dollars. ok, not blew, but you know. i spent 30 dollars on a dinner (for two, for two!!), 136 dollars (incl. tax) on a pair of shoes (doc marten boots. kick your bum ba-ba-boots!), and 27 dollars on the special super duper lord of the rings, the fellowship of the ring (4 disc) dvd set. and then i went on to buy art some pants and the boys some food (which i'll be reimbursed for). but wow. this after last week's shopping trip (pants, socks, j crew down jacket (only 30 dollars!) and some strange kitchen-y items) seems rather overwhelming to me, especially after the x-mas shopping season. maybe i just got used to handing over the credit card. and it's only the 13th. not even half way through the month! can you tell i'm going to be having little to no fun for the rest of it? well, not no fun, but no spending!

i had a good weekend. saturday we took art shopping in an attempt to beef up his wardrobe. didn't work so well, came out with one pair of cords and a headache. then greg and i went out for dinner and to borders for a while. i also got boba and we stopped at safeway to get soy sauce for sunday. on sunday, james came over and we made a sort of dim sum brunch: rice rolls, taro cake and fried rice. yum. then we sat around and played guillotine for a while. it was fun but i don't know how greg is such a graceful loser. props to him.

so it's been a hectic couple of days. well, it wasn't a hectic weekend, i had a nice relaxed weekend doing the activities i love most:
a. sleeping
b. shopping
c. reading (hopefully at a bookstore so i'm not going broke to do so)
d. eating

in fact, i had so much fun goofing off, i didn't do a single responsible thing. (like writing thank you cards, which i really need to do, like probably tomorrow night if i don't go out with grace again.

friday night i went out with grace for dinner at the olive garden and then we picked up frances and derek (frances's husband) from SFO where they were just getting back from vancover (a place they used to call home). we chilled a little while with them, talked snowboarding, which i've never done but now have an almost violent urge to do so.

saturday i slept in a bit, then mom and i went out shopping to santana row and valley faire, where i bought some cords, a down jacket and some kitchen goods. then i came home, had a bite to eat (thai curry) with art, mike, mike's friend and mom and went out to borders with james and freesh. i was trying to exchange my lord of the rings for the princess diaries. i know i know, why would i want to do such a thing? because, a. it's not the super duper 4 dvd set lotr, and b. i'm adding to my girly-girly video/dvd collection. i must have the worst taste in anything viewable because
5. i thought dark angel was a pretty cool show
4. i've seen all those terrible modernised shakespeare (get over it, o, 10 things..)
3. i own disney, but only the girly ones. and armageddon.
2. give me the remote, and 90% of the time, i'll pick something no one else wants to watch
and the number 1 reason is

1. i've watched mary-kate and ashley oslen shows (recent too)

anyway, sunday i got up early to hang out with art a bit before he left, watched some tv (playing mona lisa was pretty interesting.. but there we go again on my strange viewing habits). i was really impressed with the way alicia witt could actually really play the piano well. i mean, so many times it's faked in movies (cut away shots). then we had a relaxed dinner and i read and that was it.

but monday, tuesday and today have all been pretty busy with the work and i somehow have managed to come home in a bad mood most of the days (except today) and go to the gym which is way over crowded. i can't wait until the new years resolutions wear off. plus today, the a/c was broken and so it was hot and humid and i was about to die.

anyhow, new pictures from the holidaze are posted. i've almost got the birthday ones done and then that's it for pictures for a bit...
off to finish those!

1.03.2003

oy, do i have a headache. not a big one, but one of those mildly annoying, sitting in the back of your head ones. the ones that pop out and annoy you when you stop thinking about everything else for one second.

anyway, birthday madness was crazy fun. thanks everyone who came, i had a groovy (great) time. i promise i'll put pictures up soon. maybe next year we can go to vegas or NYC or something equally crazy. so what did we do? well i got up, and went to dim sum (over at sam kee's) and was like the first party there. in fact, we were so .. early (but they said they opened at 10:30am) we had to order our dim sum off a menu and they brought it out all fresh instead of the nifty trolleys. then we picked up robin (since my parents didn't want cars cluttering the driveway since we have enough of our own cars doing so) and drove home. we met james there and gave him his christmas presents (he was pleasantly surprised i'd like to think). then tim and char showed up and by then we were already 20 minutes late on my estimated departure time. then we were loading up cars and this huge floral arrangment was delivered (for me) from my relatives (the bourke-ys) which was surprise and nice. then we picked up freesh (who had us waiting for 5 minutes before she opened the door) and drove like speedracers up to daly city to catch BART. we met allison and andrew in the city and we had lunch at the mall at powell street (and market) and then walked up to the maxwell, the hotel we stayed at and checked in. they made us sign this agreement saying we wouldn't "party" in the room. i think we technically still did, but no one ratted us out, so we didn't get expelled from the hotel. we were too late to go to the exploratorium *sniff*, so we ended up taking the 30 down to fisherman's wharf, where we got ghiradehli sundaes and then walked/meandered down to pier 39 and a bit further. we checked out the free museum of san francisco. they had all this weird old carnival .. amusements. some of them sounded pretty raunchy (what every married woman should not avoid)_but turned out to be pretty lame. i got a dinky ring. then i checked out every single restaurant on the pier (cuz i'm cheap!) before selecting one (i don't remember which at the moment) where i had clam chowder and crab. yummy!

then everyone was pretty tired so we caught the F back to union square (which was free after 8pm for new years eve, yay!) and got alcohol (same overpriced shop as last year), and went back up to the room to play cranium and drink.

wednesday char, robin and tim left early to go home and james departed around 11am to go meet up with his family. so the rest of us emerged around noon (the check out time) and then had brunch at the food court below macys (yum, jamba juice!) before catching our respective BART rides home. greg was headachy (i maintain he was hung over) and so i drove us home, dropped off freesh and then greg and i took naps and wasted away the afternoon.

the past couple of days at work have been pretty hectic busy. too much to do in not enough time.

last night i had desert with austin and janine at max's, which was lots of fun. thanks for the great time you guys! and for the booties!! i look forward to travelling to chicago to hang out with you guys when we can get it all scheduled.

now that you've all died of boredom, i'm going to stop rambling.
